This year’s transition to VISTA has been smooth for most home users but has challenged many business users with compatibility problems.
The program that we use to run our service center, written in Visual DataFlex, is incompatible with VISTA.
Because of this conflict, no workstations in our company can run VISTA.
Hopefully there will be an upgrade or patch made by the DataFlex developers, but VISTA is nearing a year old and there are no indications of emerging work-around options.
Our networking engineers are constantly watchful for similar conflicts. If you purchase an off-the-shelf desktop or portable loaded with the VISTA operating system, consult with us about critical program incompatibilities.
Windows XP is now six years old and works well for most users. Upgrades and service packs keep it stable. Windows XP will no longer be sold to consumers as of Jan. 2008 and no longer sold to Businesses as of Jan. 2009.
Microsoft announced they will support XP until April 2014. We build new workstations and will load either XP Professional or VISTA Business.

| Cable Fatigue |
Thicker and heavier wires are not always better. Use common sense when purchasing TV and Stereo cables.
Wires thick enough to tow a boat will not give you better pictures. They can give you expensive repair bills.
Here’s the scenario. You purchase a nice 50" Plasma TV and the salesman suggests a BIG LARGE HDMI Cable to attach the Cable box.
The new cable is about 3/4th inch thick and the tiny 19 pin aluminum connector on the rear of the new Plasma TV is about 1/8th inch thick.
The heavy cable is plugged into the small HDMI connector and time begins to take its toll.
The BIG LARGE HDMI Cable is so heavy it fatigues the tiny 19 pin connector on the new TV.
Then you call us to make a site call because the picture is erratic or the sound comes and goes, we find the jack pulling off the back of the new TV.
The small connector has begun to break apart and the entire rear jack pack has to be changed.
Manufacturers have sent out service bulletins to servicers that they will NOT cover this damage in warranty.
An unexpected expense and a disappointment could have been avoided.
If you use one of these BIG LARGE cables on the back of your TV or Stereo, figure out a way to twist tie or otherwise support the weight of the thick cable up and away from bending or pulling out the jacks.
