| Notes on Modern TV Sets | ||||||
| If
you own a LCD or DLP television, buy a spare projection lamp and keep
it handy. Even if the TV is in warranty, you will avoid down time
by changing it yourself. We can place a phone or web order for a backup
lamp and ship it directly to you. Always use the TV’s remote control to turn off a new big screen. Never plug a new TV into a switched outlet. The system’s fan must continue to run for a minute or two after turn-off to cool the internal lamp housing. Lamp life will be shortened if the power is cut off without cool-down time. Projection TVs that use a lamp have air vents that must be kept clear to allow proper circulation. If the TV uses an air filter, clean it often. We replace scratched and torn projection TV screens with the exact manufacturer’s replacements. Some replacement screens can be do-it-yourself installed; some demand major cabinet disassembly. Because the multiple screens are actually Lenticular and Fresnel lens elements, they are somewhat costly. Never spray cleaning liquids directly onto any TV screen. Excess liquid can flow downward and damage the internal electronics. LCD computer monitors are very often damaged during spray cleaning. Dampen a rag and bring it to the screen, be careful not to allow any dripping liquid to flow downward into the controls. |

| Prices
of USB external hard drives have dropped so low that it is hard to
understand that important computer data on a home PC would be lost.
Purchase and use one of these drives if you have any digital pictures,
documents, check book information or anything else significant on
your computer. The capacity of most new hard drives has severely taxed
their simple capability of backing up data to CD or DVD media. USB
external drives can match the size of internal hard drives. Buy two
if you can and keep one rotated off-site to assure that you never

| There are three prevalent digital interface cables to connect your High Definition Satellite or Cable Box with your HD display screen: IEEE1394 (Firewire), Digital Visual Interface (DVI) and High Definition Multi-media Interface (HDMI). Learn about these as you shop for your new HDTV and Home Theater systems. The HDMI connection is the most practical because the one thin cable can carry full HD video plus eight audio channels for long (50 foot runs) with little noticeable loss. Using the HDMI single connection cable also clears up much of the customary wire mess behind electronics equipment. |
