Q: “I want to get rid of some old office computers but need a sure method to clean the hard drives.”
A: “To be safe, have a computer technician clear any drive containing very sensitive data.  You can fdisk and format the drive yourself if the level of data theft exposure is low.”
Q: “Do they make a DVD player for both the Blu-Ray and the HD-DVD?”
A: “Yes, recently LG Electronics introduced that product.”
Q: “What is spyware?”
A: “Spyware is an Internet  program technology that monitors your computer actions.  It gathers information about you for reasons from advertising to ID theft.” A well placed computer virus can ruin your computer, a well placed spyware can ruin your life.
Q: “I still have a collection of BetaMax tapes.  Where can I get new Beta Tapes and new BetaMax video machines?”
A: “We are out of luck for any new players. The format has been abandoned. But Blank Betamax Tapes remain available by special order.”
Q:“Is High Definition Satellite an improvement over Hi Def Cable?”
A: “In some locations it is. Program variety and PPV options are often better on Satellite TV. Monthly subscription cost is another vital consideration.  ”
Q:  “Should I be upgrading to Microsoft’s Vista?”
A: “Vista’s advantage is the built-in security features. If that is a major concern and your computer is less that two years old, run the Vista test to see if it will run OK on your system.
Q:   “What’s the best way to inexpensively back up a home computer?”
A: “An external USB hard drive makes the most sense for speed, cost and ease of use. Many come with scheduling programs that allow you to setup an automatic backup.”
Q:  “The foam around the edge of my good speakers is falling apart.  Can that be fixed reasonably”?
A: “If the cone and coil are intact, typically for about half the price of a new speaker.”
Q:  “Can I attach my computer to my Big Screen TV?
A:  “Typically, yes. Modern big screens have many input ports. Avoid video and s-video because typeface detail would be lacking. Try the RGB, DVI or Component inputs.”
Q:  “Is it going to damage our new Plasma to let the kids play video games?”
“ Modern PS3, XBox and Wii games have made provisions to slightly shift the entire picture often enough to avoid burn-in damage. Be careful with the older game systems that did not provide that safety feature.”
